Shell appoints Wael Sawan as CEO effective 1 January 2023

Sawan succeeds Ben van Beurden, who will continue working as an adviser to the Board until 30 June 2023.

International energy and petrochemical company Shell plc announced that Ben van Beurden will step down as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the end of 2022; his successor will be Wael Sawan, whose appointment will be effective 1 January 2023 when he also joins Shell’s Board of Directors, according to a press release dated 15 September. Ben van Beurden will continue working as adviser to the Board until 30 June 2023, after which he will leave the group.
